Carl Holden
1927—2004
By Des Goodley, Markham Chapter president
Carl Holden, a 30-year Society member, passed away December 1, 2004 after suffering increasing pain for about a year.. His time after admittance to hospital was blessedly short when the full extent of cancer was known.
In spite of his own pain, Carl was visiting our incapacitated members, as well anyone that he felt needed his time and help, almost to his admittance. He was that kind of a guy.
Carl was a faithful member for over 30 years, serving his chapter in many ways. He was the same with a loving family and in the community. He had an accurate and fine bass voice. It was a privilege to sing with him in a quartet or in the chorus.
His passing prompted me to write a poem that may express how we must all feel at the passing of a longtime fellow Barbershopper. It was my privilege to include it in saying a few words at his funeral on December 7, 2004. k
