A first for Ontario District!
By Waldo Redekop, Editor/Publisher The Trillium
Since the Society started choosing the quartets eligible to qualify for the International Quartet Competition by requiring them to meet a minimum score to qualify for competition, this is the first time that the Ontario District has become eligible to send two quartets to the International Quartet Competition by reaching the minimum score.
The Fixx achieved a score of 1877 points while Mirage achieved 1848 points, both above the minimum qualifying score of 1824 points. Congratulations to both quartets on achieving the qualifying score.
Misnomer, from McMaster University in Hamilton and the University Of Western Ontario in London is our entry into the International College Quartet Contest.
In the International Chorus Contest at Salt Lake City, the Toronto Chapter, Toronto Northern Lights, will be representing the Ontario District. They won the right to represent us in the fall competition last year and will be singing 15th in the International Chorus Contest.
This year there is a wild card chorus playoff in which the top 12 choruses based on their scores in the district contests last fall have been invited to compete for six additional positions in the International Chorus Contest. The Greater Toronto Chapter, the MegaCity Chorus, has been invited to compete in that competition and will be singing seventh, hoping to then also be competing in the International Chorus Contest after having won the right to do so.
Good luck to all the competitors. We will be cheering for all of you at the APOC Pep Rally in June and then in Salt Lake City in July.
