Gord Lang
1925—2005

Files from John Ford and Al Davis

Gord Lang, lead in the Rhythmaires (third-place International 1954, fifth-place 1955) and the Tune Twisters, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 21, 2005 in Midland Ontario. He had been receiving treatment for cancer. Gordie would have been 80 on September 1.

Gordie’s barbershop career also took him to Windsor where he was that chapter’s chorus director from 1960-64.

He and Eleanor moved to Midland in the early 70s and Gordie directed the Huronia Harmonizers for several years. Eleanor was the founder of the original Toronto Chapter Sweet Adelines in 1955 and Gord was their first director. He directed for many years, winning the Region 2 championship several times.

In a district blessed with many wonderful comedians and humorists, Gordie stood out as one of the most gifted among them. Eddie Morgan, tenor of the Rhythmaires, suggested that they place a microphone in his casket.     k
