John Rendall
1914—2005
By George Nicholson
Another Singing Saint has been lost to that barbershop chorus in the sky. John Rendall, or Johnnie as he was known as, became a charter member of the St. Catharines Chapter in 1951. At the same time he was also a member of the Niagara Falls N.Y. Chapter.
He was an avid Barbershopper throughout his 54 years with the Society. He sang with a strong tenor voice and always had an upbeat personality while singing with quartets and the chorus. During his early ears in the chapter, Johnnie’s house was a popular site for Tuesday meetings in the summertime.
In later years of retirement he moved to Florida, but maintained his membership in the chapter and returned to St. Catharines several years ago. Although is attendance and participation in chapter activities was curtailed by health reasons, he did maintain contact through several of the chapter’s senior members.
Johnnie’s passing in June, 2005, rang the final chord for the chapter’s charter members. k
