Robert H. Foster
1923—2005

Submitted by Bob Burrell

A long-time member of Markham Chapter and a founding member of the Suburbanaires Barbershop Chorus, Bob Foster passed away on June 10, 2005 after a long illness. Bob started with the Markham Men Of Harmony in 1981, and served in most positions, including president four times. He was Barbershopper Of The Year in 1989 and a member of the Hall Of Fame.

Bob, for many years, was the lead in the quartet “Four Flats Unfurnished”, which performed at many Blue Jays home games. Thanks to Bob’s efforts, Markham Chapter was for many years the leading contributing chapter to Harmonize For Speech.

Bob was with the RCAF during World War II and took pride in later years in his presentations to school children describing war experiences. A good friend, a trusted advisor, an enthusiastic Barbershopper, generous to a fault and always a true gentleman, Bob will be particularly missed by the Suburbanaires on Remembrance Day, when he always played a key role in chorus and civic services in remembrance of Canada’s veterans. His friends in the Markham Men Of Harmony and the Suburbanaires were honoured to sing at his funeral.       k
