Great novice contest
By Don Coghlin, Heartland Division Co-ordinator
Nearly 100 members from the Kitchener/Waterloo, Guelph, Mount Forest, and Owen Sound chapters, attended the annual novice quartet contest held at Owen Sound in the Roman Catholic church hall on June 6, 2006.
When you have people like John Wilkie and Ken Fisher teaching a new song, it did not take long for everyone to get involved in the singing. It was one of the largest ones held in recent years with all chapters participating. In total there were 12 quartets challenging for Super Novice, Novice, and Senior Novice recognition. All chapters entered the VLQ race for the medals.
It was good to see some senior members help some of the new members get involved in this fun night.
New and different names for the quartets kept the rest of the members with smiles on their faces. Such names as Bob’s You’re Nephew and 2 Tons and a Couple of Pounds and 3 Blacks and a Red among the favorites.
Good fellowship was provided by the Owen Sound Chapter and their leadership team. Celebration, a quartet from Owen Sound Chapter also presented a couple of numbers to the enjoyment of all. It was great to meet and visit with old and new friends. Many are looking forward to next year’s event. k
