Sixth Annual Songfest
By Rod Colquhoun
On the seventh of June, Ontario’s Loyal and Devoted Fraternity of Active Retired Tonsorial Singers held their sixth annual Songfest in Markham. Groups that entertained included 13 quartets (of which Classic Chordsmen was one), the Second Career octet and the Timbertones.
Between groups of singers there was some gang singing with Ray Danley, Jim Rehill and Ron Whiteside. We also learned a tag with Bruce Bonnyman.
Al Davis got this whole thing started six years ago but is stepping down as chairman after this year. Thanks, Al, for starting Songfest.
Later a buffet lunch was served which included lasagna, salad, rolls and dessert squares, along with coffee and tea.
The next Songfest will be on Wednesday, June 6, 2007. Everyone is already looking forward to it! k
