Christmas starts in September in Seaforth
By Doug Procter, secretary, Seaforth Harmony Kings
Christmas carols and a barbecue. This may seem like a strange combination, especially in September, but that’s exactly what close to 100 men experienced on the Tuesday night following Labour Day at Northside United Church in Seaforth.
The Seaforth Harmony Kings were gearing up for the Western Division’s annual Barbershop Christmas Show, this year to be hosted by the Seaforth Chapter.
Knowing that men who like to sing also like to eat, invitations were sent to the Seaforth, Strathroy, London, Sarnia, St. Thomas and Mt. Forest chapters to a free barbecue presented by members of the Harmony Kings and their wives. With full stomachs, the men were prepared to practise a medley of 12 Christmas songs as a mass chorus. Dave Campbell very capably directed and Margaret Whitmore accompanied on the organ.
The mass chorus was only a small part of the Christmas Show presented on Sunday, November 26, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Northside United Church with well over 100 performers. Each group performed separately and then formed a mass chorus for the finale. k
