Ottawa celebrating 50 years next year

By Bill Vermue, Eastern Division Co-ordinator

Brockville Chapter
The Melodymen continue with their directing team of five directors and are well into learning new repertoire as well as preparing for four Christmas performances. They now have a potential candidate for full time director  and I hope to be able to be able to file a success story in the next issue.

Brockville, as always, is ready to take on extra tasks. By the time you read this they will have hosted an Eastern Division director training and quartet coaching day November 25. The annual general meeting is being held on December 13.

Kingston Chapter
The Townsmen are still buoyed by the very successful convention they recently hosted.  Hats off to them for a job well done. They have four pre-Christmas engagements as well as a carol sing on December 9 for a number of senior’s homes.

Their Installation Dinner being held in January and they plan to have six members attending COTS. Kingston’s next annual show is booked for May 25, 2007 with guests, Chameleon.

Cornwall Chapter
C-Way Sound is pretty excited about the way things are shaping up for the fall. Their show, “Daddy Sang Bass,” is scheduled for November 18 at Aultsville Theatre in Cornwall and features guest quartets Play It Again! and Polaris from Ottawa, Adirondack Harmony Company from Canton New York and guest emcees Stacy Hugmans from Montreal and Linda Janes from Burlington Vermont. They have been rehearsing on our new risers and, since these are our first risers,  they make quite a difference to our sound and our enthusiasm.

The chorus has scheduled sing outs on November 29 at Chateau Gardens Nursing Home,  two performances at Festival of Trees at Cornwall Armoury December 3, Cornwall Square Shopping Centre December 13 and December 20, as well as another mall sing out. They will be actively participating in the Eastern Division training day on November 25th.

Nepean Chapter
The Northern Stars are preparing for their spring show, “Big screen/Little screen,” to be presented on May 4 and 5, 2007. Major news for the chorus in that Stuart MacMartin, their assistant director for the past couple of years, is now sharing co-directing duties with Tony Bove.

Ottawa Chapter
The Capital City Chorus is extremely busy this Christmas season with three major performances as well as their own Christmas shows on December 8 and 9. Added to this is their Christmas bash on December 2 and their annual general meeting on December 11.

Also in the works are plans for their fiftieth anniversary year in 2007, in particular, their anniversary show on June 2, 2007. This show will take place at the National Arts Centre, one of Ontario’s premier venues.     k
