Don’t miss Denver competition

By Barry Towner, Society Paired District Board Member — ONT and NED

Things are getting exciting in Nashville. Work is progressing on the conversion of the McQuiddy Building to our new Society Headquarters. By this fall, we expect our Society staff to move into the facility. The facility will address our current and future needs. While the Nashville convention is still a year and a half away, I hope you will consider going to the International convention in Nashville in July 2008 and take the time to visit your headquarters.

Speaking of International conventions, Denver is coming up quickly and it is quickly looking like it is going to be a great experience. This will be the first time Denver will have hosted an International and they are pulling out all the stops to make sure it is a super convention.

Are you booked to go yet? We have two great choruses competing and representing the Ontario District. And, we will undoubtedly have super competitors in both the MBNA Collegiate Quartet Contest and the main International quartet contest. It will be a convention NOT to be missed.

A couple of weeks after Denver, will be another Harmony University. Ontario has been well represented at HU every year and I expect this year will be another great school.

There are lots of courses to suit every level of Barbershopper at Harmony College, plus chorus directors at Directors College, plus quartets at Quartet College. The faculty is super every year and strive to make it an unforgettable experience for everyone in attendance.

There are two versions of HU. One is the full week and the other is the weekend taste. Check out the Society web site to see how it fits your needs.

If Harmony University is a little beyond your cheque book at this time, then consider Ontario’s own Harmony College North. This year it will be at Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo with prices that fit every pocketbook. Check it out.

Our new Society president’s theme is Harmony — for life! Consider how barbershopping has affected and changed your life and see if you can bring others into this great hobby of ours.

The Society Board is committed to the future of the Society. To that end each of us on the board will be calling a number of chapter presidents over the next couple of months to get their feedback and will be considering this input as we develop the updated aims for future years.

I will be the official Society representative at the spring convention in Blue Mountain. I will try to be available as much as possible to chat with you about the Society and the Ontario District.

If you have any questions regarding how the Society operates, drop me a line at btowner @ interhop.net and I will either answer your question or get you an answer. If you have any comments regarding the operation, drop me a line and give me that information too.
