Happy 90th Birthday, Roy

By Jim Doyle, Northern Division Co-ordinator

Barrie Chapter

The County Chordsmen are awaiting word on their Trillium Grant application. The 30th Anniversary of the current charter was a successful night, held on November 15, 2006. Dave Daniels presided over the Installation Banquet and Ladies Appreciation Night, held on January 20, 2007, in Wasaga Beach.

On February 12, the Chordsmen, joined by many former members of the Scarborough Chapter, sang at the funeral of John MacDonald, a long-time Barbershopper.

On February 14, the chapter celebrated the 90th birthday of Roy Keys, who has been a Barrie Chapter member for the past few years, but whom all Ontario Barbershoppers know for his contributions to the Society and district over the years.

The Barrie chorus is in the process of learning new music for their November 10, 2007 show, and plan to enter the Ontario District fall contest in October. They are looking forward to singing at the spring convention in Collingwood and giving away the trophy to the new Ontario District Champs!

The Chordsmen have paid performances lined up for June and August, in Barrie and South River, respectively.

Huntsville Chapter

The Muskoka Music Men held their Christmas party and installation night on December 3, 2006. Jim Doyle attended to officially install the new executive.

The Music Men are organizing another “Sing for Your Supper” event for St. Patrick’s Day on the actual date of March 17 this year. They held a successful guest night on January 15 featuring the Barrie quartet Four Part Junkies (Northern Division’s 2006 Big Wheel winners).

Huntsville’s Annual Show is slated for Saturday, August 18 in the Algonquin Theatre.

Midland Chapter

The Huronia Harmonizers’ incorporation is in process but needs to be nurtured every step of the way. Tim Anderson, a Barrie Barbershopper (and a lawyer) is assisting.

Chorus Director Art Hemming is once again undergoing chemotherapy and their assistant director is currently down south.

North Bay Chapter

The Gateway Harmony Company is working toward their show June 16, 2007. Also, I am pleased to report that North Bay has consented to host the 2007 Northern Division Big Wheel Contest. The date is yet to be confirmed, but is being planned for the fall (September or October).         k
