HAROLD CLARK
1912—2006
By Bill White and Shaun Carey
Harold Clark passed away peacefully at the Southlake Nursing Home, Newmarket, on December 22, 2006. Harold was a founding member of the Thornhill Chapter. His career in barbershopping, participating in a number of great entertaining quartets, culminating in the Markham Chapter, and the Suburbanaires senior barbershop chorus.
Beginning as a choir boy, Harold loved music. Singing was a passion throughout his entire life. The team of Harold the soloist and Mr. Piano Man Bill O’Hara were a formidable entertaining duo. Harold and his wife Mary, who predeceased him in 2000, were cottage residents at Harmony Ranch, Baldwin.
As a member of the RCAF, he taught ground school for pilots during World War Two. He had the uncanny gift of humour, always had a joke on his lips, and his expertise in delivering one-liners was reflected in the twinkle of his eyes. His winning smile, personable demeanor, welcoming heart and friendship toward others knew no bounds.
In addition to his countless friends, Harold leaves his son Brian and wife Dianne of Mahwah, New Jersey, and extended families in Canada and the United States. It is worth noting that Harold’s son Brian was an heroic survivor of the 9/11 World Trade Centre tragedy, a fact of which Harold was very proud. Harold’s barbershop friends extend their sincere condolences.
A celebration of the life of Harold Clark took place at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Thornhill on December 29, 2006. The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. Canon Greg Physic, rector, assisted by Rev. Don Downer, associate priest. The Suburbanaires sang and Bill White and Shaun Carey presented appropriate eulogies. k
